Trixino: Online casino games explained
Online casinos offer far more than slots. Each game type has its own rules, pace and house edge. This overview helps you understand what you are playing and what it costs on average.

The short answer
Online casino games fall into six groups: slots, RNG table games, live dealer games, live game shows, instant and crash games, and specialty games such as scratch cards or keno. Table games like blackjack and baccarat usually have a lower house edge than slots, but slots dominate casino lobbies because of their variety and features.
Slots
Slots are the biggest category by far. You choose a stake, spin and win when matching symbols land on paylines or "ways". Features such as wilds, free spins and multipliers add variety. RTP typically varies between games and can differ between versions of the same game. Read how online slots work.
Roulette
A ball lands on one of the numbered pockets of a wheel. European roulette has 37 pockets (1 to 36 plus one zero), giving a house edge of 2.70% on standard bets. American roulette adds a double zero, which raises the edge to 5.26%. Where both are offered, the single-zero version is better value.
Blackjack
You play against the dealer and try to get closer to 21 without going over. With basic strategy and favourable rules, the house edge is often around 0.5% to 1%, but rule changes such as a 6:5 payout on blackjack instead of 3:2 increase it noticeably. Check the table rules before you play.
Baccarat
You bet on the Banker hand, the Player hand or a Tie. The house edge is about 1.06% on Banker (after the usual 5% commission) and 1.24% on Player. The Tie bet pays more but has a much higher edge, about 14.4% at the common 8:1 payout.
Poker-based table games
Games such as Casino Hold'em, Three Card Poker and Caribbean Stud are played against the house, not against other players. Each has its own pay tables and side bets; side bets usually carry a higher house edge than the main game.
Live dealer games and game shows
Live casino streams real dealers running roulette, blackjack, baccarat and poker games from a studio. Live game shows add wheels, bonus rounds and presenters; they are entertaining but often have a higher house edge than classic tables. See live casino vs slots and our live casino overview.
Instant, crash and specialty games
Crash games let you cash out before a rising multiplier "crashes". Scratch cards, keno and dice games give results instantly. They are quick, which means many rounds per hour and faster losses if you are not careful.
House edge at a glance
House edge is a long-run average. It tells you the expected cost of play, not what will happen in one session. See RTP explained.
| Game | Typical house edge | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Blackjack (basic strategy) | About 0.5% to 1% | Depends heavily on table rules |
| Baccarat, Banker bet | About 1.06% | After 5% commission |
| Baccarat, Player bet | About 1.24% | |
| European roulette | 2.70% | Single zero |
| American roulette | 5.26% | Double zero |
| Slots | Varies, often 2% to 6% | 100% minus the game's RTP |

Choosing what to play
Pick games you enjoy and understand, check the rules and RTP in the game's help screen, and think about pace: fast games cost more per hour at the same stake. Whatever you play, set a budget first. Our responsible gambling page lists free help.
Frequently asked questions
Which casino game has the best odds?
Blackjack played with basic strategy under good rules usually has the lowest house edge, followed by the Banker bet in baccarat. European roulette is better than American roulette.
Are live casino games fairer than RNG games?
Both can be fair. Live games use real cards and wheels; RNG games use tested software. The house edge depends on the game rules, not on whether it is live.
Why do slots have a higher house edge than blackjack?
Slots are pure chance with no player decisions, and their RTP is set by the game design. Many slots return around 94% to 97%, while blackjack with basic strategy can return over 99%.
